B2B Intent Signals in the Age of AI Agents

AI activity can make website visits and other digital signals harder to interpret. Use them alongside verified account fit rather than treating activity alone as buying intent.

B2B Intent Signals in the Age of AI Agents

A website visit tells you that a page was requested. It does not, by itself, tell you that a buyer is evaluating your product. Automated research and AI agents make that distinction more relevant for B2B intent data.

The practical response is to separate account fit from purchase timing. You need both, but they answer different questions.

What an intent signal can tell you

A job posting may reveal a planned capability. A product-page visit may suggest interest. A funding announcement may indicate a change in resources. Each is a clue with other possible explanations.

Before assigning a high-priority score, ask who generated the activity, when it happened, and how directly it relates to the problem you solve. Several tools repeating the same underlying event do not provide independent confirmation.

Start with a defensible account list

Build the list around companies that can use your product. Website evidence can help establish that fit: services offered, certifications, locations, partnerships, and the technologies supporting the business.

For example, a certification may qualify a manufacturer for your target segment. It says little about whether that manufacturer is buying this quarter. Keep those two conclusions separate in your CRM.

Combine fit and timing in your workflow

  1. Define the business characteristics that make an account suitable.
  2. Verify those characteristics against company evidence.
  3. Add dated events that may justify timely outreach.
  4. Review whether the event supports a specific, useful message.

A high-fit company without a current trigger may belong in a longer-term account plan. A low-fit company with heavy website activity should not automatically jump to the top.
